Adidas Terrex 400km Adventure Race

Gavin Garner, the OnSide project manager for Blackburn and Wigan Youth Zones, joins Jon Glanfield, Tony Harris and Amanda Howard to form a team to compete in the Adidas Terrex Adventure Race, a 400km multi-disciplinary non-stop race through Cumbria from the 27th to the 30th August 2010.

gavin_garnerThe team have chosen OnSide North West as the beneficiary charity of all funds raised through their Virgin Money Giving site - UK Virgin Money Giving

The team hope to complete the course in under 80 hours by completing the 250km of mountain biking, 100km of running and 65km of kayaking whilst remaining unsupported through the event.

With experience in fell running, mountain biking, orienteering, climbing, kayaking and ropework, each of the team members has been training hard for six months to face what is likely to be their toughest challenge yet. They will face the challenge of sustaining themselves through 22-hour stages of constant exertion before two hours of sleep to prepare themselves for the next leg of the race, as well as the stresses of decision making under extreme fatigue and pressure upon which the race could succeed or fail.

Please support the team in this incredible feat of endurance by sponsoring them today and help OnSide give young people top quality, purpose built, safe and affordable places to go in their leisure time.

Good luck Gav! We'll be thinking of you!
