OPEN Norwich: Lee Clark, YMCA myplace support worker

Lee explains his role in the myplace programme in the Midlands and passion for working with young people. Lee runs outreach programmes and ongoing consultation with local young people to identify their needs and to determine how these can be facilitated by myplace youth centres.

OPEN Norwich: Jacob Lee, AKA DJ Oblivion

Jacob discusses his DJing, hosting regular workshops and nights as a resident DJ at Open Norwhich. Jacob also discusses the drug and alcohol culture associated with dance music and how Open Norwich is a place where young people can learn that you can fun without drinking. The new centre has a club, media centre and recording studio for budding musicians. The centre is fully accessible for the less able and disabled young people and has flexible spaces where can be converted to cater for a wider range of activities.

OPEN Norwich: Sam Harrons, Shhhh Clothing

Sam is a regular myplace visitor and volunteer, here he discusses the new myplace centre facilities at Open Norwich, as well as his clothing line Shhhh Clothing which he started about 18 months ago based on his interest in street art. He has since had support from Enterprise GY and started his website and sells his clothes online and in local stores. (www.shhhhclothing.com )

Open Youth Trust: Russ Dacre, Project Director

Russ runs through the history of the OPEN centre - from the need behind the new centre to gaining funding, purchasing the building and seeing the young people of Norwich benefit from the centre. Young people where involved in the project from architecture and interior design to setting up the website, running and managing of the centre. OPEN, Norwich is the first myplace funded youth centre to open in England. (www.open247.org.uk)

New myplace Blackpool Youth Hub: The Architects Behind the Design

Architects Andy Wolfe, Paul McCollough and Matt Hill from the Blackpool City Council discuss the plans for the new myplace Blackpool Youth Hub Centre in Southpoint. The new centre, being developed on an existing campus will use modern construction methods, including transparent cladding, to open up the building to the community. It will include a community kitchen, café, ICT suite and a gym.

OPEN Norwich: Ben Williams

At the opening of the first myplace centre the appropriately titled OPEN centre in Norwich, myplace youth consultant Benjamin Williams interviewed Norwich young local James Miasek to gauge how the youth of Norwich feel about the new centre and the facilities it has to offer. The OPEN centre hosted an opening week of celebrations jam packed with activities, performances, and workshops.

Blackpool Youth Hub

The gold medal winning rower, supported by model Mandy Smith and musician Bongo Eddie Folk of Kid Creole and the Coconuts, recently stopped by at Blackpool's Southpoint Centre - the recipient of a £4m myplace grant. After meeting with the young people of Blackpool and giving a talk on what facilities such as these can do for an area, the ambassadors held workshops with the young people of Blackpool. Sir Steve Redgrave gave a crash course in rowing on the gym machines to delighted pupils of Palatine High School. The new youth hub - the Blackpool Southpoint Centre is being developed on an existing campus with a children's centre, primary school, sports college, leisure centre and library, will use modern construction methods, including transparent cladding, to open up the building to the community. It will include a community kitchen, café, ICT suite and a gym. David Lund, Director of Children's Services for Blackpool Council welcomed the ambassadors and showcased architectural plans of the new centre.

David Lund discusses how the council worked to secure the myplace funding because they recognised the need to transform the resort town for our youngsters. The new £4m Southpoint youth centre in South Shore is set to be one of the best examples of the postive impact myplace funding has on communities when it opens in 2010.

myplace Blackpool: Sir Steve Redgrave, rowing challenge

Sir Steve Redgrave encouraged young people in Blackpool to take part in a rowing challenge to promote the new world class youth centre, Southpoint, which received £4m in funding earlier this year.

OurPlace youth centre, Huyton Arts and Sports Centre

OurPlace, which has young people at the centre of its concept, design and day-to-day running is a new youth centre. On a visit to Knowsley, Sir Steve Redgrave and other ambassador lead a range of workshops, including a rowing challenge, a percussion music sessions with ‘Bongo' Eddie and self esteem workshop with former model and singer Mandy Smith.

Bongo Eddie is professional percussionist, lead vocalist and compere from New York and perhaps best known as the long standing member of "Kid Creole and the Coconuts", Eddie has toured with artists such as James Brown, Al Green, and Martha Reeves. In this interview Eddie discusses how music shaped his life and how playing various musical instruments can be of benefit to young people.

OPEN Norwich: Rt Hon Dawn Primarolo

The Minister for children and young people, Dawn Primarolo discusses the myplace programme at the opening of OPEN in Norwich. Ms Primarolo discusses how the aim of myplace,creating world class places for young people to go to in their spare time, has become a reality with the opening of OPEN. OPEN is the first of many myplace projects to open its door to young people.

OurPlace Knowsley: Jenna Young

The myplace programme in conjunction with Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council are creating 'OurPlace', a youth facility which has young people at the centre of its concept, design and day-to-day running. OurPlace will include a media suite, café with a terrace, dance studio, chill out space and a wildlife area, as well as opportunities to get advice on a range of issues including training, careers, health and personal safety. It will also open up exciting new spaces for adventure and environmental activities, including allotments and a BMX/skate park.

myplace Leicester: Haymarket Theatre

The myplace Haymarket is set to be transformed into a state-of-the-art centre for youth activities thanks to the city council securing £5 million of Government grant. The city centre Haymarket theatre building will be transformed into a world-class youth centre offering a huge range of sporting, arts and music activities and spaces where young people can meet.

Working as an Ambassador of the myplace programme, Ex-model and singer Mandy Smith talks about her past and why she is passionate about working with young people, especially young girls, to develop and enhance health and self esteem.

Hinckley Club for Young People, Leicester

myplace Ambassadors Sadie Pickering and Sir Steve Redgrave visit the Hinckley Club for Young People. Situated at Richmond Park, Hinckley, it has been awarded over £4.5 million as part of the myplace programme, for a project which will benefit children and teenagers throughout the county.

Leicester: Sir Steve Redgrave

myplace Ambassador Sir Steve Redgrave is acknowledged as Britain's greatest Olympian, Sir Steve won gold at five consecutive Olympic Games, a feat matched by only three other Olympians. He has completed three London marathons as part of a challenge he set himself to raise £5 million in just five years. He set up The Steve Redgrave Fund to install rowing machines in schools along with a curriculum based programme. Sir Steve has a long link with young people's activities - his mother established the Marlow Bottom Youth Club and worked for many years as a volunteer.

Leicester: Sadie Pickering

Actress Sadie Pickering is a myplace Ambassador, supporting the myplace initiative. Sadie began her acting career whilst still at school with roles on At Home with the Braithwaites, Children's Ward and 24Seven. More recently she has featured in Dalziel & Pascoe, the horror movie Splintered and starred as Flick Mellor in the BBC series Waterloo Road. In her role as a myplace ambassador she is particularly keen to encourage young people to follow their dreams - especially those with an interest in the creative arts.
