West Mids Young People have a place of their ownYoung people across Coventry, Staffordshire and Shropshire will soon be reaping the benefits of dynamic new youth facilities thanks to government grants of close to £10 million, announced today. Staffordshire County Council receives £4,389,474 to run the Chesterton's Vision project in Greater Chesterton, Newcastle-Under-Lyme, supported by partners including Staffordshire Council for Voluntary Youth Services (SCVYS) and Connexions Ltd. This is a project to replace an existing youth facility, which dates back to the 1870s, with a state-of-the-art centre serving Chesterton and Holditch incorporating a new sports hall, fitness suite, dance studio, cinema/TV area, arts and crafts zone, IT suite, kitchen/coffee bar and meeting rooms. Activities will include basketball, football, art, after school clubs, topical debates, exercise classes and vocational training. Young people in need of additional support services or at risk of exclusion from mainstream school will be catered for at the centre. Activities will tackle topics on anti social behaviour, the use of illicit drugs, teenage pregnancy, life skills, employment opportunities and emotional skills. Counselling and advice services will be available. In addition, two new mobile units will provide complementary outreach work in rural areas. Total Award: £4,389,474 |
