Press Release - Culture Fusion |
West Yorkshire Youth given £20 Million of OpportunitiesYoung people in West Yorkshire will soon be recording their own music, honing their skills on the climbing wall and getting involved in performing arts at two new youth centres funded by multi-million pound government grants. Culture Fusion, a project led by The City of Bradford YMCA, will see the refurbishment of an existing building, together with a modern extension. The new centre will have an atrium rising to the top floor and will feature a six-storey climbing wall dance studio, hostel accommodation, counselling rooms and a rooftop café. The project aims to combat barriers faced by young people in Bradford, such as territorial and safety issues and isolation, by providing a central, neutral hub. Activities, aimed at young people aged 13-19, will include music recording, dance, sports, climbing and an internet café. There will also be support services, counselling and vocational training. Wasiq Khan, 15, a member of the Young People’s Steering Group who helped develop the project, said: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out we’d got the grant. Culture Fusion will bring the young people of Bradford together and make a real difference to their lives.” Total Award: £5,050,000
