Press Release - Extreme Connexions

World-Class Youth Facilities to be Built in Eastern England

Young people in Eastern England will soon be reaping the rewards of two new flagship youth centres after successfully helping out with bidding for government grants of nearly £10 million, announced today.

Dacorum Sports Trust Ltd (DST) will create a youth hub in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, offering extreme sports and combining an existing counselling and advice centre. Partner organisations in the project will include Youth Connexions, Dacorum Children's Trust Partnership (DCTP) and Dacorum Borough Council (DBC).

The Extreme Connexions project will boast a BMX and skate park, caving and a climbing wall area. There will also be a music-recording studio, band rehearsal room, DJ mixing consol, film studio and street basketball zone. Indoor surfing and dance combat classes are amongst the other activities on offer. Aimed at those aged 14 to 19, the centre will also offer a teen health clinic, counselling, and various support services.

Dave Cove, Chief Executive of Sportspace – Dacorum Sports Trust, said: "This award is an amazing opportunity to deliver a facility for young people, developed by young people. The range of exciting activities, information and guidance available will mean it is the ultimate young person's 'one stop shop'."
