XC Preview For Reddings School!

Redding School VisitA lucky group of Dacorum youngsters got the opportunity to see firsthand how the building work at XC is progressing when they visited the site. After donning hard hats and florescent jackets the group from Redding's School enjoyed an exclusive guided tour of the new extreme sports facility being built at Jarmans Park.

The group of 22 pupils aged 7 - 9 years got to see close up how the centre is taking shape by checking out the climbing wall, bouldering wall, caving system, skate park and high ropes! As well as teachers from the school the children were accompanied on their guided tour by Tony Lynes, the Site Manager from GB Building Solutions together with Dave Cove and Rebecca Hemmant from Sportspace.

XC is due to open at Jarman Park in July 2011 and will be the only centre of its kind in the UK. In addition to the world class skatepark there will be a 60 x 15metre climbing wall, the longest organic indoor caving facility in Europe, plus a challenging high ropes course. The facility will also feature a music recording studio, a band rehearsal room and an internet cafe as well as a teen focused health centre with counselling rooms. XC is being built by GB Building solutions and Sportspace are working closely with Dacorum Borough Council and the Youth Connexions service.

The feedback from the children was extremely positive!

  • ‘It looks great now, but I think it is going to look even better when it is finished!' - Wesley
  • ‘I think it will be a smash hit when it opens, especially the climbing wall!' - Shae
  • ‘I can't wait until it opens on 23rd July, so that I can go with my friends.' - Bethanie
  • ‘I really like the building and I can't wait until it opens to try out all the activities.' - Farhan
  • ‘I thought we all looked really funny in the hard hats and reflective jackets!' - Jessica

Sian Murray, the childrens' teacher, said ‘We were lucky enough to have a preview of the fantastic facilities which will soon be opening around the corner. It was amazing to be able to see the way in which such a venue is constructed, particularly the tunnel system and the climbing walls.'
