Mansfield setting the standard

Wednesday, 25 November 2009 15:53

folkhouse1Construction began last week at Mansfield's Westfield Folk House. The Folk House is the first Standard Track Project to begin construction. To celebrate this great start they held a turf cutting ceremony on Wednesday 16 November, bringing together all the projects partners, as well as some intended users.

Sean Tizzard, Regional Policy and Partnerships Manager, Big Lottery Fund said ‘It was fantastic to go along to the 1st myplace standard track turf cutting ceremony to see a project that will clearly make a massive difference for young people in Mansfield'.

Westfield Folkhouse will become a state-of-the-art fully integrated multi-agency youth facility, offering youth clubs and targeted projects for young people seven days a week.

The centre will also offer facilities for young people with disabilities alongside vocational training programmes for teenagers during the day time.

Wesfield Folk House is a Grade II listed building that has been a youth facility for over 60 years but is now too small to meet demand.

Westfield is due to open in spring 2011. A film about Westfield Folk House will be available on the myplace support website shortly.
