East London Youth Hub get multi-million go aheadYouth-led projects in East London offering activities including music, art and sport have been given the go ahead with close to £20 million worth of government funding, announced today. With a myplace grant of close to £5 million, Hackney's Youth Hubbz project will see two new buildings built and three buildings refurbished in the borough, to provide a state-of-the-art centre offering sport, music, art, fashion, and photography. It aims to transform the lives of many young people aged 11 to 19 years old in one of London’s most deprived areas. The London Borough of Hackney is awarded the funding and will manage the project in partnership with the young people themselves. It will provide a positive environment and focus for young people. Somewhere they can go just to hang out with friends or get advice from a range of support agencies on issues such as sexual health, education, training and careers. Councillor Rita Krishna, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Hackney Council, said: “The funding will enable us to provide youth services in high quality buildings, which have been designed with the help and for the benefit of young people in Hackney.” Total Award: £4,990,902
