Multi-million pound eco-friendly myplace for Hinckley youthYoung people in Leicestershire will soon be recording their own music, enjoying judo clubs and dance workshops at a world-class youth centre funded by a multi-million pound Government grant. Hinckley Club for Young People, situated at Richmond Park, Hinckley, has been awarded over £4.5 million as part of the myplace programme, for a project which will benefit children and teenagers throughout the county. Hinckley Club for Young People will consist of a sports hall, chill out zone, computer workspace and climbing wall, as well as a fitness suite and conference facilities. A skate-park, BMX track and allotments will give visitors plenty of scope for enjoying the outdoors. Working in partnership with registered charity Leicestershire Clubs for Young People and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, the club will be open to children and teenagers aged 8-19, with 60-65% of them aged 13-19. Activities will include recording sessions, homework clubs, DJ workshops, discos, archery and car maintenance. Advice and support on topics such as debt and sexual health awareness will also be offered. The new club building will be eco-friendly, with low running costs and a low carbon footprint through rainwater harvesting and high efficiency lighting. Geoff Wells, Secretary of the Hinckley Club for Young People, said: “Getting the myplace grant is like winning a gold medal in the Olympics. ‘It means young people from this deprived area can now look forward to a bright future. This gives us the opportunity to deliver what are crying out for. Those running the club are mainly volunteers, and I cannot describe our excitement. It is like Christmas has come early!” Total Award: £4,555,415 |
