Pres Release - Hornsey Road Baths

Multi-Million Pound Centres of Opportunity for North West London Youth

Young people in three North West London boroughs will have opportunities to get involved in music, cookery, sport and computing at their own world-class facilities funded by a £12.7 million Government investment, announced today.

In the Finsbury Park area of Islington, the Hornsey Road Baths Youth Project, today awarded over £3.5 million, will provide a place for young people to go and a place they can take part in performing arts, music production and volunteer opportunities.

With the grant awarded to the London Borough of Islington, who will deliver the project working in partnership with a number of organisations, the project will involve an extensive refurbishment and remodelling of the old laundry rooms at the Hornsey Road Baths, which will result in a state-of-the-art facility including performance space, media centre, dance studio and café.

Islington Council’s Executive Member for Children and Young People, Paula Belford said: “Finsbury Park is one of the most deprived areas in the borough so the brand new youth centre that we'll be able to create with the My Place money is much needed and will make a real difference to the young people who use it. Young people from Islington put a lot of hard work into developing the bid, so congratulations and thanks to them."

As well as providing a positive and safe space for young people to socialise in, the Hornsey Road Baths Youth Project will be a place that young people can go to for advice on a range of issues, training, education and counselling. It will benefit young people aged 14 to 19 and particularly those who have disabilities, special educational needs or who are at risk of anti-social behaviour, in area that is currently lacking in youth projects.
