North East Youth get Creative with Multi-Million Pound CentresYoung people in Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough and Redcar are stepping up to the challenge to help design and develop state-of-the-art youth centres thanks to nearly £15 million in government grants announced today. In Stockton-on-Tees, with a myplace award of £5 million, a new world-class centre for local young people will bring much-needed facilities to an area where there are few options. The ICE (Inspiration, Creativity and Entertainment) Centre in Norton is designed to be iconic and innovative and will provide a range of activities and services for young people aged 13 to 19, seven days a week, including sports, arts and social enterprise training. Developed by Stockton Borough Council with young people and local partner providers, the ICE Centre will be a young people’s centre of excellence for business and enterprise. Elizabeth Shearer, Stockton Youth Member of Parliament, who has been involved with project, said: "It’s fantastic news! It will give young people new opportunities to make new friends and develop a wide range of skills that will help them in their everyday lives, and will create a strong foundation for their future." Working closely with the council’s Extended Schools Services and the new Stockton Academy, the centre will contribute to transforming the way education, training, leisure activities and targeted support services are delivered. The centre’s partners will deliver health and welfare advice, outreach, translation and other services. Total Award: £4,995,250 |
