Author: Bill Badham and Harry Wade; The National Youth Agency/Local Government Association, 2008

The Hear by Right Standards offer participation framework for organisations and services based  on three principles: children and young people have a right to be involved in the decisions that affect them; their participation is essential to improve services and respond to their needs; and that the shared aim of this participation should be change.

Involving children and young people in developing social care

Tags: design | essential guides | young people involvement

Author: Polly Wright et al; SCIE (social care institute for excellence), 2006

The guide is intended to offer managers and practitioners in social care organisations a framework for systematically developing the effective and meaningful participation of children and young people in the design, delivery and review of their services. It draws heavily on the views of young people about how to develop effective participation. The guide will also be useful to everyone involved in promoting children and young people's participation in services that affect their lives.

Outcomes of the Youth Opportunity Fund/Youth Capital Fund

Tags: capital grants | young people involvement | youth facilities

Author: Sarah Golden et al. National Foundation for Education Research commissioned by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (2008). Perpetua Kirby et al; Department for Education and Skills (2003).

The Youth Opportunity and Capital Funds (YOF/YCF) provide discrete revenue and capital budgets for young people to control and decide how money should be spent on positive activities and youth facilities in their area.. The DCSF commissioned a two-stage evaluation to establish whether giving young people control and decision-making power over resources in their local area led to an increase in provision of quality positive activities and the level of participation by young people in these. The funds had a particular stress on involving disadvantaged young people as grant-givers and recipients.
