A Fitness SHOKK for Young People

Monday, 19 July 2010 14:30

SHOKKYoung people are not often the target of professional fitness organisations, which prefer to focus on the body-conscious adult market. However, one globally unique company has adopted a revolutionary approach to fitness services - their clients are between the ages of 5 and 18. SHOKK is now the number one global youth fitness brand. Boasting more than 200 worldwide facilities, more than 175,000 people are now involved in SHOKK's concept of professional fitness for young people.

SHOKK aims to increase the activity levels of young people in today's society through the provision of a full range of specialist equipment, training and services. SHOKK has evolved its own identifiable brand, giving what it believes to be an effective, safe and fun answer to the growing physical activity problems of young people. The goal is to create an exciting and stimulating environment to make sure young people are taking part in regular, inspiring physical activity experiences. Their brand is designed and focussed uniquely for young people.

SHOKK not only have youth gyms, but are trying to deliver a message about making physical activity acceptable, fashionable and ‘cool'. If they are successful in their campaign, they hope that the almost subliminal message behind SHOKK's range of peripheral products and merchandise will be that if new young members are wearing SHOKK T-shirts, SHOKK Puma tracksuits or drinking from a SHOKK water bottle this will translate into positive communication and work as advertising for youth facilities across the country.

SHOKK secured a partnership in June with Stockport Sports Trust to deliver youth oriented training in order to encourage more young people to get active in their own communities. Granted with North West Centre of Vocational Excellence status, SHOKK (The Youth Activity People) as part of the National Skills Academy for sport and active leisure, are now responsible for the delivery of youth oriented training in the North West and have the experience of having worked with Trafford College and Salford University.

Located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the attractive show site is to contain a state of the art SHOKK Concept youth gym. Clients visiting the site are encouraged to try and imagine how a SHOKK gym can appear in their own environment and community, promoting the idea of making a functional space colourful and motivational, as well as allowing them to browse the equipment.

SHOKK have also been attracting people off the telly to work for them - Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist and dynamic Parkour specialist Brad Wendes offered to launch a new free-running workshop - SHOKK Parkour. Parkour which means the ‘art of movement' combines running with gymnastics. Developed to help people keep fit in both the countryside and in big cities, Brad the National Trainer will instruct teachers, coaches and fitness professionals safely indoors with the use of foam blocks and heavy duty crash mats. SHOKK Parkour is intended to be combined within Stripe Two, which progresses skills and evolves the programming and session aspect as part of The SHOKK ‘Earn Your Stripes' educational training pathway.

SHOKK and its associates make sure they are extremely aware and up to date with knowledge about the health issues facing young people living in today's fast food and low-activity culture. The group have carried out extensive research which is focussed specifically on the fitness requirements of young people - tending not only to physiological development but also psychological development, motivation and concentration.

SHOKK are offering free "SHOKK comes to town" demo sessions to all myplace projects on a first come first served basis. These are great events for getting young people involved and trying a range of activities. For more info on running a demo day, please contact Shawn Clarke sc@shokk.co.uk or call 07887 528696.

Don't forget if you are aged 13-19 yrs you could win yourself a SHOKK skateboard with your very own design on it in our competion.
