Conference to help empower young people

Monday, 16 November 2009 00:00

360logoIt is so important that a young person's potential is given every possible chance to realise itself. It is vital for the future of the country that young people are helped to develop skills across the difficult transition periods of their life so that when they become adults they are ready for the challenges before them.

An upcoming conference, run by 360° People in association with HTI, aims to do just that - enhance the character of young people aged 4-19 and ensure coherence and progression from school to work.

Taking place in London on Wednesday 10th March 2010 in London, the conference will help school, employers, parents and communities support young people in developing those transferable ‘soft skills' and help in harnessing and sustaining young people's readiness for work and life fulfilment.

The conference aims to do the following:

  • Help schools deliver the ‘full core offer' of the new OFSTED framework; and address the five strands of extended services effectively.
  • Pinpoint ways to help young people maintain and enhance their character development across key phrases and transitions.
  • Introduce you to the 360° characteristics framework with its exciting range of tools, research with state and independent primary and secondary school and employers.
  • Develop an awareness of how ‘readiness for work' - ‘soft' skills supported by financial capability and economic and business understanding - can support the five ECM outcomes.
  • Identify strategies for raising individual and whole-school aspirations through, for example, focusing on soft skills and ‘whole-person- records of achievement from year 6 upwards in response to Alan Milburn's recent report.
  • Address the challenge set out in the DCSF's June White Paper that education should prepare every child to succeed by developing their broader skills, knowledge and understanding.
  • Help you learn about new and innovative models for sustaining those skills which underpin living a fulfilling life, particularly at crucial transition points, ensuring young people are equipped for individual and work achievement.
