Extra cash for youth projects to fight antisocial behaviour

Wednesday, 25 November 2009 11:41

john_denhamYouth projects across the UK are set to benefit from a £10m cash injection to local councils in a bid to combat antisocial behaviour.

The extra funding will be divided between 130 councils for a range of schemes, including projects that "engage young people." Examples of projects to receive money include campaigns informing people where to report antisocial behaviour and training for police and neighbourhood wardens.

The funding, announced by communities secretary John Denham, will range from £74,000 to Lincolnshire County Council and £40,000, which 16 of the 130 councils will receive.

Other councils to be handed money include Nottingham, Southampton and Bradford.

Denham said: "We want to spur more action, faster action and more effective results so people can be confident that problems are being tackled and stopped. We want people to know they are not alone and that government, their council and police are on their side, whether it's tackling nightmare neighbours, aggressive gangs or mindless vandals."
