Online guide warns young people of the dangers of alcohol abuse

Wednesday, 25 November 2009 13:38

An online advice guide has been launched to help youth workers assist young people on the dangers of alcohol abuse.

Produced by alcohol awareness charity Drinkaware, the guide is aimed at young people aged 11-16 and features topics such as risk taking, and how alcohol relates to emotional and sexual health.

It has been put together by youth workers, teachers and young people and also includes workshop plans, links to the latest research and fact sheets about drinking and alcohol

Drinkaware chief executive Chris Sorek said: "This has been developed based on extensive feedback from those who work with young people on a daily basis. We have tested our workshop plans and worksheets with several youth groups."

Alongside the guide the charity have released new statistics revealing that, in a survey of youth professionals, 59 per cent thought more help was needed to teach young people about alcohol, and 80 per cent were concerned about alcohol abuse in among young people
