Shaneice Bailey, youth panel member, said: "I joined the Legacy Youth Panel to develop my confidence and share young people's views with others and to have our say."
Over the next five months they will visit the Olympic site, which stretches to each of the five boroughs in the search for inspiration, and then work with experts to draw up plans for the Olympic Park.
Andrew Altman, chief executive of the Olympic Park Legacy Company, said: "We want young people to feel a sense of ownership towards the Olympic Park because they will be the generation that will most experience the change the east London over the next 24 years."
The panel is expected to work closely with the planners, visit schools and take part in a photography project. The resulting plans are to be revealed at a summer event where they will relay their experience to fellow teenagers from their boroughs - the areas which will be most affected by the Olympics.
Regeneration projects will be undertaken in these areas to prepare for the Games and the tourists they are expected to attract. This follows on from a recent report advising the Olympic Park Legacy Company to focus on the goal of improving the lives of people in east London. The Legacy Youth Panel will have a say in the long-term planning and urban design of their local boroughs, suggesting events they would like to see at the Olympic site in 2012 once the Games are over.
Yuan Chen, youth panel member, said: "I think it will be an amazing opportunity to be part of the Olympics coming to London and help create a lasting legacy that will benefit all the different communities that live on the doorstep of the Olympic Park."
The Youth Panel is run by Stratford architecture centre Fundamental Architectural Inclusion: encouraging local people to participate in designing their own communities.
