Youth sessions curbing antisocial behaviour in Bolton |
|
The area of Great Lever has been the victim of repeated antisocial behaviour but problems have calmed somewhat following months of youth sessions, the establishment of a centre for young people and close work with police, the council and other organisations including the Bolton Council of Mosques.
About 60 young people attend Saturday evening sessions at the Heywood Park Centre, with staff from the Lads and Girls Club organising events such as football and pool competitions.
Club outreach coordinator John Partington said: "The problems were caused by a very small minority who spoil things for the majority.
"Things have improved dramatically in the past two months. The young people now have use of the centre and all of them are engaging well with us. After initial resistance, we've been able to build relationships and trust."
This is a fantastic example to set for all myplace projects and proof that reaching out to young people really can make a difference.
