knighthoodA number of youth workers and youth justice workers have been named in the Queen's annual New Year's Honours List.

OBEs were given to Captain Kandiah Chandran, chief executive of The Preset Charitable Trust, for services to young people in London, Frances Crook, director of the Howard League for Penal Reform, for services to youth justice, Alan Beavis from Reading, for services to the Scouts, and Alexander Tait, former governer at HM YOI Castington.

Captain Chandran said: "I do not consider this OBE an award for myself, but a recognition of the work of Preset and my colleagues who work together to assist young people around the capital."

Among those awarded MBEs for services to young people include Thomas Sermon, chairman of London Youth, and John Drake, former chief executive of YMCA Norfolk. Antony Romer was also awarded an MBE for voluntary service to Fairbridge youth organisation, while Ilene Ming-Deans was appointed MBE for services to Clapham Youth Lyn Ming Centre in Lambeth, London. Margaret Hillman was appointed MBE for services to Girlguiding Cymru.
