Blackburn Youth Zone is being developed by new NW charity OnSide.

click to open OnSide websiteOnSide has been set up to build a network of 21st century Youth Centres across the North West that will give young people top quality, safe and affordable places to go in their leisure time.

The Blackburn Youth Zone will be based on the model of the successful Bolton Lads and Girls Club (BLGC). Explains Jerry Glover (Chief Executive BLGC & OnSide):

"The days are gone when young people will flock to a run-down Youth Club with inadequate facilities - they would rather stay on the streets... and we are well aware of the dangers and problems associated with that. Listen to young people and their wishes are clear and simple ... They ask for somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to. If we can give them that, it will make a huge difference to the lives of thousands and thousands of ordinary kids in our region"

Adds Andrew Graham Chief Executive Blackburn Youth Zone:

"Blackburn Youth Zone is a fantastic opportunity to invest in the young people of Blackburn ...and therefore in the future of the town. The project is well supported by central and local government and has had a fantastic response from the private sector. The Zone will act as the catalyst to get the people in and around the town to re-connect, re invest and re-generate Blackburn. The enthusiasm for this project is infectious and people are already talking with pride about their home town. It will offer young people the best in social, recreational and emotional support helping to develop happy, caring and responsible citizens."

The Youth Zone Building

Benefiting from the creative talents of the Young People's Development Group, the project design team, led by architect Mark Serventi from Eric Wright Group developed plans for the iconic, £5.8 million Blackburn Youth Zone. It will be a three storey building with a wide range of facilities including a multi use games area on the roof, a climbing wall within the sports hall and a dedicated dance studio.
