Press Release - The Phoenix Centre

Multi-Million Pound Youth Projects coming to Sussex Coast

Young people in Hastings and Bognor Regis will have their own world-class places to go where they can enjoy recording music, playing sport and performing arts with over £5.7million being invested by the Government.

Over in West Sussex, young people in Bognor Regis are celebrating the news that £1.5 million is being awarded to West Sussex County Council to build a new three storey youth complex, The Phoenix Centre, on the Bognor Regis Community College Campus.

The project led by West Sussex County Council and supported by other local organisations* will give young people aged 11 to 19 years old new opportunities to get involved in performing arts, sport and learning how to run a radio station at a state-of-the-art centre.

Pat Arculus, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Children and Young People's Services, said: "I am absolutely delighted that such a significant sum is also to be invested in a dedicated youth facility on the site of the brand new Bognor Regis Community College which the County Council is building. I would like to congratulate all the young people who campaigned and played an important part in the bidding process and I am sure they will be equally delighted with the result."

The Phoenix Centre will also provide a safe and encouraging environment where young people can ask for advice and guidance on issues such as training and education options, business enterprise and sexual health.

The project will give young people in Bognor Regis a positive focus and will be open to all, to ensure that all young people can benefit including those who have disabilities or are from BME communities or low-income families.
