Press Release - Rotherham myplace |
South Yorkshire Youth given £20 Million worth of OpportunitiesA trio of state-of-the-art youth hubs funded by multi-million pound Government grants will soon give the young people of South Yorkshire a place to call their own. Rotherham myplace, receiving a grant of £3,406,750, is a new build project led by Chantry YMCA. The new youth hub, built on the site of a disused car park, will offer a range of facilities for youngsters aged 11-19, including a graffiti art room, IT suite, cinema, performance hall and rooftop café. The project will focus on social enterprise activity and recreational activities. An alternative curriculum will be offered to young people who have been excluded from mainstream schools. Connexions and Rotherham Children, Young People and Families Voluntary Sector Consortium will also provide support on a range of issues such as homelessness, sexual health and drug rehabilitation. Aimee Robinson, 20, a young person who sat on the myplace decision-making committee and lives in Yorkshire and The Humber, said: “It’s nice to be able to have a say in how resources for young people should be supported and funded. And I think the best people to be able to make those decisions are young people.” Total Award: £3,406,750 |
