Keeping TaBs

tab_logoSince we have been back in the land of the living you may have noticed a couple of project updates on the website and now we have another one from the Trinity-at-Bowes Methodist Church myplace project, TaB Centre Plus, in London. They have been very busy for a while now and have hosted a variety of events promoting their project.

Event 1

Event number one was myplace information and celebration day which was held as long ago as the 9th June last year. The purpose of the celebration day was to showcase the project and let the public know what a great centre they will have at their disposal. There was a great turnout at the event with representatives from local businesses, partners and the local council all giving their support. The day was a great success and there is now much more of a buzz about the centre and its facilities.

Event 2

Also in June last year was a live music jam session for young people making music at the centre to get together and share what they have learnt. It was an opportunity to network with other budding musicians and create music in a friendly and relaxed environment. It was attended by TaB Centre Plus music students as well as their friends and family.

Event 3

Last summer the project also held what they dubbed a ‘Summer University' in which young people could learn about nail art and beauty techniques. The classes ran from the 29th July to the 25th August and were an opportunity to learn the basic techniques of beauty therapy and care including nail care and nail art, Indian head massage, make-up tips/application and skin care. There were also massage classes to teach the basics of massage and so parents could learn how to give baby massages.

Event 4

A great judo club has been run by the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation on a weekly basis. It has helped to get young people interested in judo, get fit and meet new people. It has also been designed to teach young people to help protect themselves from attackers and knife crime as well as other skills and disciplines.

Event 5

In October the centre held an event called ‘It Takes Two' which was an opportunity for young people to get together, have fun and become aware of problems that affect teenagers everywhere. However, the event was not just for teenagers as younger children and their parents were also in attendance to hopefully learn something too. They were able to have fun and explore challenges teenagers face in their community.

Event 6

Bringing the events bang up to date was a Valentine's ball. The event was for 18s and over only and gave the chance for networking, meeting new people and just having fun and socialising. There was also a speed dating element to the evening to add that little bit of romantic spice.

Event 7

Now we're moving into future events and all the way to August where the project will hold a basketball tournament with the Royal Servants from the USA. No doubt this will prove immensely popular and provide the chance for young people to meet others, socialise and show off their basketball skills.

That is quite an extensive list of events and they all seem to have gone down very well and there is no doubt future events will continue in the same vein.
