West Mids Young People have a place of their ownYoung people across Coventry, Staffordshire and Shropshire will soon be reaping the benefits of dynamic new youth facilities thanks to government grants of close to £10 million, announced today. Shropshire County Council receives a grant of £3,900,000 to run the TeenSpace project in two locations – Shrewsbury and Oswestry in partnership with other organisations. An existing centre in Shrewsbury will be redeveloped to be the hub for the whole county while new facilities will be built at Oswestry with rurally isolated and deprived teenagers being targeted. The Shrewsbury centre will have a contemporary chill-out room with coffee bar and Internet cafe, performance space with raised stage area and production facility, meeting and interview rooms, and a multi-use activity area. Oswestry will have a reception foyer with IT and library facilities, a coffee bar, learning kitchen, a multimedia suite and a dance room. Activities across both sites will include drama, music, dance, and multimedia production, arts and crafts. There will also be access to support and advice services. Total Award: £3,900,000 |
