East London Youth Hub get multi-million go aheadYouth-led projects in East London offering activities including music, art and sport have been given the go ahead with close to £20 million worth of government funding, announced today. The Youth Leisure Zone in Thamesmead will be brought to life with an award of £5 million and enable it to offer young people opportunities such as sailing, climbing, dance, music and educational courses. Through a mix of new build, extension and refurbishment, the Youth Leisure Zone project will transform The Southern Arches in Thamesmead to provide a world-class facility that will involve the ideas and opinions of young people at every stage. Local charity Trust Thamesmead, who are leading the project in partnership with other local organisations will also offer advice on a range of issues and hope to greatly improve the lives and future prospects of young people in Thamesmead aged 14 to 19 years old. All projects funded through myplace have actively involved young people in their design and development, and will continue to involve them in their future running and opening times, which will include evenings and weekends.
