£10 Million of Opportunities for Merseyside YouthYoungsters across Merseyside will soon be reaping the benefits of a dynamic new youth facilities programme awarding close to £9.8 million announced today through the Department for Children, Schools and Families’ (DCSF) myplace programme. Youngsters in Halton will soon be enjoying a feast of free activities thanks to a £2.5 million award for a project to transform a local listed building into an exciting multi functional activity centre. The Buzz, launched by Halton Borough Council will offer a cinema, exhibitions, performance and arts activities, gym, chill-out rooms, ICT facilities, meeting rooms, and one to one advice and guidance. The centre will be located at the heart of a developing “Youth Village” comprising Riverside College, local High Schools, the Leisure Centre, local library and children’s centre. Targeting youngsters aged 13 to 19, and in particular those who are vulnerable, the centre will be open at the times young people want, such as Friday and Saturday evenings, for guidance on issues including, education, careers, housing and money and teen health. The project will also encourage young people to get involved in social enterprise activities and local volunteering opportunities. The project will work in partnership with local organisations including Connexions and Halton and St Helens PCT. Russell Jones, Halton Member for Youth Parliament said: “I feel that this is a wonderful opportunity for the young people of Halton. For many years we have campaigned for more places to go and things to do, this is absolutely fantastic news and I feel privileged to have been involved.” Total Award: £2,500,000 |
