Press Release - The Hub |
World-class youth centre puts County Durham 'In the Zone'Young People in County Durham will be canoeing, kayaking and rock-climbing on the site of a world-class youth centre as a result of a Government grant of more than £5 million. The Hub will offer young people aged 13-19 the opportunity to take part in a range of indoor and outdoor pursuits on a 15-acre site of natural beauty in rural Barnard Castle. The centre will be split into separate activity zones to include a BMX/cycle track, skateboarding bowl, and adventure area with climbing boulders, ropes course and ‘zip-line’. Those looking to get creative will make use of the music recording and rehearsal areas, dance and drama studios and art and media rooms contained within The Hub building itself. Keith Jones, Senior Area Worker, Durham County Council, said: “This is absolutely fantastic news and just reward for the work that has been put in. Young people have been involved in designing the services of the future and their hopes and aspirations can now be realised. It demonstrates clearly the effective partnership of the County and District Councils with the voluntary sector. “I pay tribute to all the young people who have taken the time to contribute and be involved in their community. To be able to say to themselves, ‘I was part of that’, will remain with them forever.” Total Awards: £5,001,830
