Notts Youth can't wait for a place to call their ownYoung people in Nottinghamshire will soon be enjoying state-of-the-art facilities at two new youth centres, after successfully bidding for a multi-million pound grants. The NGY project in Nottingham city centre receives a further £4,906,000 as part of almost £20 million being spent on four youth facilities across the East Midlands. The project, launched by Nottingham City Council, will involve the refurbishment and extension of an existing building in the city centre over three years. The new centre will boast a music recording studio, DVD production area, dance studio, café and gym. Activities, aimed at bringing youngsters aged 13-19 from different areas together, will include music and film production, football and other sports. Support with employment and housing issues, training and health advice will be offered to vulnerable youngsters. Nottingham Youth Council member Ashraf Reid, 17, who helped develop the NYG project, said: “Young people in Nottingham have been crying out for something like this for a long time. It’s fantastic news for young people and for the city. “Nottingham Youth Council has been involved in this project from the start, and I think that showed in our bid. I’m delighted the voice of young people has been heard loud and clear.” Total Award: £4,906,000 |
