Press Release - The Pitch - A Place to Go

Multi-Million Pound Centres of Opportunity for North West London Youth

Young people in three North West London boroughs will have opportunities to get involved in music, cookery, sport and computing at their own world-class facilities funded by a £12.7 million Government investment, announced today.

Young people in Harrow aged 11 to 19 years old and disabled young people up to 24 years old can look forward to a new project called The Pitch – A Place to Go, given the go-ahead today with a grant of close to £4.2 million. Led by Watford FC’s Community Sports and Education Trust, in partnership with Harrow Council and other local organisations*, the project will see a new world-class centre built on the Cedars Estate, Harrow Weald that will include a multiuse sports hall, gym, café, IT suite art room and recording studio and will have a 3G multi-use pitch outdoors.

Neil Hart, Senior Manager – Social Inclusion from Watford FC’s Community Sports and Education Trust, said; “This grant demonstrates the excellent relationship that exists between Harrow Council, its young people and us. This new project ‘The Pitch – A Place to Go’ will provide thousands of young people with the opportunities and the skills to achieve and develop into individuals who can make a positive contribution to their communities and society as a whole.”

It will provide a positive environment for young people to spend their time in, socialising or getting involved in the many activities that will be offered, such as football, karate, basketball, art, music or cookery. It hopes to improve their health, fitness, social skills and aspirations and be somewhere they can also get support and guidance on a range of issues including education, training, sexual health and mental health.

Total Award: £4,248,000
