Sarah Fenwick, Enterprise Manager at Coast and Moors Voluntary Action, said: "This is the most amazing news for the young people of Scarborough. Coast and Moors Voluntary Action and North Yorkshire County Council have worked tirelessly with the young people of the town to create a fabulous bid to put forward. This is going to make a huge difference to people's lives, with world class facilities, support, information and the knowledge to make the future of Scarborough prosper and flourish. This has been a long project but we have achieved it against very tough competition. Can we thank everyone who has helped up make The Street a reality. We have so much to be excited about!"
Charles Kirby, 18, one of the young people involved in the plans, said: "I think the project will support Scarborough not just now but also in the future; it will change the old views that young people have nothing to do any more. The Street will increase self esteem, confidence and career prospects of the young people of Scarborough. We have been crying out for this for years, so it's fantastic news."
This project will offer a multi-media suite, street dance, music, arts, sports, cooking and mini-cinema to young people aged 13-19. Particularly benefiting young people from Scarborough communities within the 10% most disadvantaged in England the project will be open 8.30am to 10.30pm Monday to Saturday and will offer support including guidance on training and employment. |
