Project update - The Street, Scarborough
The Street myplace project in Scarborough has got some exciting things going on in the near future and so we thought we should share them with everyone.
First up is a photography competition for young people. This is a great chance for young people to flex their artistic muscles and the contributions will be used to produce The Street branding and on the website which is currently under construction.
On the 28th April the project will hold a workshop combining poetry and rap to produce a ‘Yorkshire Rap'! To add a bit of glitz and glamour the event will be attended by celebs Ian MacMillan (Yorkshire Poet, Have I Got News For You) and Radio One DJ and myplace ambassador Ras Kwame. This will be followed by a short performance at a more formal event designed to attract private sector support/sponsorship for The Street. There's also the possibility of Ras Kwame doing a gig in the evening. Something definitely not to be missed!
Any good seaside town has their own sticks of rock and The Street is getting on the act by commissioning a local confectionery company to produce branded sticks of rock. The flavour, colour and labelling of the rock will be designed by young people and they will also go to the factory to help with the manufacture of the rock. They are also hoping to run a Willy Wonka-style golden ticket competition but probably minus the Oompa-Loompas. Probably.
