A grant of £4,750,500 is awarded to The XCHANGE Project, run by Suffolk County Council, as part of the myplace programme which is funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and delivered by the Big Fund, the non Lottery funding operation of the Big Lottery Fund. The centre will be aimed at 13 to 19 year olds and up to 24 for those with additional needs. The emergency accommodation unit is specifically for 16 to 19 year olds or those up to 24 with additional needs. One young person, Ryan Neary, said: “I think it is good because it will give us help and support and could even keep the younger people out of trouble by giving us things to do. I’m bored of just sitting around town doing nothing." Another teenager, Jamie Corby, said: "I think it is great that people are really listening to us. There will finally be somewhere for young people to meet others in Stowmarket to make new friends which I have found really hard in the past". Total Award: £4,750,500 |
