1   Link   UnLtd Sports Relief Awards (UK)
UnLtd Sports Relief Awards, a UK wide funding programme funded by Comic Relief, provides opportunities for young people between 11 and 21 years of age to bring communities together, to help promote understanding and solve problems through sport, arts and recreational activities. There are three types of awards. Try It - Offers grants of up to £1,000 for projects that focus on providing opportunities for young people to come together and engage in new activities. Shape It - Offers grants of up to £5,000 for projects that address issues in local communities. Do It - Offers grants of up to £10,000 for projects that use sport or recreational activities as a solution to a social problem. The type of projects supported could include an indoor cricket mini-world cup to engage young people from different backgrounds; reduce violence in an area by getting young people to channel their energies into football rather than fighting; or could holding a skateboarding competition for kids that will reduce tensions in the local area. Do It awards will be made every 3 months. Applications to Try It, and Shape It can be made at any time.

2   Link   Football Foundation's Facilities Fund (England)
The Football Foundation, through its facilities scheme is offering grants to football clubs, multi-sports clubs, local authorities, all educational establishments, registered charitable organisations/not for profit companies, industrial and provident societies/unincorporated not for profit organisations, to support projects that improve the facilities for football and other sport in local communities; sustain or increase participation amongst children and adults; help children and adults to develop their physical, mental, social and moral capacities through regular participation in sport. Grants can be used towards grass pitches drainage/improvements; pavilions, clubhouses and changing rooms; artificial turf pitches and multi-use games areas; and fixed floodlights for artificial pitches. The maximum grant the foundation will provide is £500,000 of the project cost. The Foundation also provides development (revenue) grants to deliver football development associated with the new facility e.g. coaching, football development officer etc.

3   Link   Wells Sports Foundation
The new Wells Sports Foundation has just started providing grants to sports clubs and schools to help fund projects that will increase participation in sport by young people both now and in the future. Grants can be for up to £2,000 and are available across England, Scotland and Wales. The Sports Grants Scheme is looking to fund projects that support the development and sustainability of sports clubs. This might include projects that need equipment that is specifically focused on increasing participation, CRBs for volunteers, coaching qualifications and refereeing/umpiring courses. Applications are accepted at any time.

4   Link   Funding for Innovative Sports Projects (England)
Sport England has announced that its Sustainable Investment in Communities Fund will re-open for applications on the 26th October until the 21st December 2010. The fund will be available to organisations such as sports clubs, voluntary or community organisations, local authorities, and education establishments, such as schools, colleges and universities to invest in innovative projects capable of transforming the places where we play or take part in sport. Priority will be given to proposals that draw in funding from other sources. Priority will also be given to projects with a collaborative or consortia approach which can demonstrate the potential to grow and sustain participation in community sport. The funding is for the development of the capital infrastructure, this can include contributions to the costs of new build; modernisation; and major fixed equipment where it is an integral part of a project.

5   Link   Sportsmatch (England)
Sportsmatch, which is funded by Sport England to support the development of grassroots sport has announced that it is now seeking applications for funding for 2011/12. Through the scheme, Sportsmatch offers pound for pound matched funding to investments made by businesses, trusts and individuals into projects that encourage sports participation at grass roots level. The funding available is primarily for running costs (maximum grant £100,000) although capital awards of up to £25,000 can be made through the scheme. This can include non personal sports equipment such as outdoor basketball nets, kwik cricket surfaces, boats, sports wheelchairs etc. The scheme is open to community based sports projects, in particular those that benefit young people, disability groups, black and minority ethnic groups and/or women and girls. Since its original launch in November 1992, Sportsmatch, together with commercial sponsorship, has invested more than £102 million into 5784 community sports projects across England. Previous grant recipients include Devizes School, a secondary school and specialist sports college in Wiltshire . They obtained a three year sponsorship from a local construction firm, Gaiger Brothers, which amounted to £10,000 per year. The school matched this with a further £10,000 from Sportsmatch and were able to run an annual multi-sports coaching camp during the school summer holidays. Application can be submitted at any time up to the 19th September 2011.

6   Link   Inspired Facilities Fund (England)
Sport England, as part of the £135m Places People Play initiative, has announced the Inspired Facilities Fund. This is a locally-focused fund, which will launch in February 2011, and will open to applications from April, for the first of five £10 million funding rounds, with the final round being in 2014/15. The fund will be open to clubs, community and voluntary sector groups and councils, and will offer grants of between £25,000 and £150,000 towards projects that can prove a local need for a facility to be modernised, extended or modified to open up new sporting opportunities. Inspired Facilities aims to fund up to 1,000 local sport facilities.
